The Crossmolina Community Festival is back this year and this family-focused, community-run festival promises more events than ever. The festival runs from Wednesday 19th to Sunday 23th July. Final touches are being made to the programme of events at present, and it will be revealed shortly. Updates are due to be posted over the coming days and weeks and we are already eagerly awaiting the details. This large community based festival caters for people of all ages. From fun sports and games for the children, and comedy and country nights for teenagers and adults, there is fun for everyone and this is a festival not to be missed!
Crossmolina is incredibly excited and proud to host Sharon Shannon as its Festival headline act on Thursday, 20th July. Her performances, each full of great skill, talent and energy, sweep the audience up in the music. With her accordion playing, Sharon has moved audiences throughout Ireland and the world over the last twenty-five years, picking up the Lifetime Achievement award at the Meteor Awards in 2009. Her performance is set to be one of the biggest nights of the festival and an unforgettable experience for all the family. You can find a taste of what to expect from Sharon’s concert in this video:
Singer-songwriter Don Stiffe will be a special guest at Sharon’s concert (he will also be one of the judges at the Festival’s Singing Pubs Grand Final later in the week). After living and performing in the USA for many years Don moved back to Ireland and you may remember him as one of the finalists on RTE’s All Ireland Talent Show in 2011. Tickets for this special event are available now locally and on Ticketmaster.
The Nephin Rose 2017 will take place on Saturday June 24th in Hineys Crossmolina. A special word of thank to Laura Judge, the 2016 Rose, who has been a great ambassador and who represented Crossmolina so well over the past year. The Crossmolina Community Festival wishes Laura the very best of luck in the future.
The Crossmolina Community Festival has gone to a new level this year and there promises to be a treasure trove of events for young and old.
Following last year’s comedy performance by Brendan Grace, there will be a dedicated Comedy Night on Friday, 21st July in O’Malleys where we hope to hear belly laughs, hoots, whoops and other sounds of fun with three of Ireland’s leading comedians, Joe Rooney (Fr. Ted, Killinaskully etc), Patrick McDonnell (Fr. Ted, Naked Camera etc) and Sharon Mannion (Bridget & Eamon, Moone Boy etc) all in association with the Connolly Motor Group.
On Saturday 22nd July, in an event that is sure to dazzle, The Upper Deck Crossmolina hosts a Country Night where Stetsons, cowboy boots, denims, check shirts are all welcome as we sing and dance the night away with Lee Matthews & His Band. Lee is one of Ireland’s newest and exciting country performers and we are glad that he has Crossmolina Festival on his Summer schedule of festivals.
With full details of events to be revealed, we can say that 2017’s Festival has an extended family fun day, on Sunday 23rd July, featuring a variety of fun sports and games for children to enjoy.
Of course, our perennial favourite, the Singing Pubs Final, will take place towards the end of the Festival where the best local performers will offer smooth, gravelly, melodious, resonant and captivating performances to claim the Signing Pubs crown. This is one not to miss!
Festival 2017 will be launched on the weekend of July 1st and 2nd in the Town Hall, Crossmolina. Organisers urge us that this will be our first opportunity to register for some of the Festival’s free events, especially important where numbers are limited.
The Crossmolina Community Festival is set again this year be one of North Mayo’s liveliest festivals, bringing the community together with events for everyone.
