The Crossmolina Festival is back this year and this family-focused, community-run festival has more events than ever. The festival runs from Wednesday 20th – Sunday 24th July. This large community based festival caters for people of all ages. From storytelling for the children, a disco for the teenagers and the Gardening World and cake sale for the adults, as well as the Sports and BBQ day for the whole family; there is fun for everyone and this is a festival not to be missed!
The festival has a fantastic line-up with many acts performing such as Declan Nerney, Aaron Cawley, David Lynn and Marc Roberts. The festival headliner this year is famous comedian Brendan Grace, who is performing on the Thursday night. This is the well-known comedians 47th year of performing, with his performance being one of the biggest nights of the festival and is set to be a night of fun for all the family.
The festival this year has a special programme of events set just for the children with something to do each day of the festival. Ex-Kerry footballer Paul Galvin and special guests are doing a training session and football fun with children at Deel Rovers GAA Ground. There’s also the teddy bears picnic and many taster sessions to get involved in such as canoeing.
On the last day of the festival there is a Centenary Parade in honour of the 1916-1921 volunteers. Members of the volunteers’ families are asked to take part in the parade as well as past and current members of An Garda Siochana, Prison Officers, Army, Navy and Air Corps from North Mayo.
To end the festival, on the Sunday night is the final of the ‘Singing Pubs’ competition with Louise Duffy from Today FM and Eunice Moran from Mid-West Radio judging.
The Crossmolina Festival again this year is to be one of North Mayo’s liveliest festivals, bringing the community together with events for everyone.
