For cyclists visiting the area, or indeed, locals looking for some inspiration to get out on the road, Ballina Cycling Club have very kindly shared with us some recommended cycling routes in North Mayo and Ballina, all taking in the beautiful scenery that Mayo and Sligo has to offer. There are distances to suit all abilities as follows:
Short: under 50km
Medium: 50km – 80km
Long: 80km +
All routes start from Great National Hotel Ballina, located on the Foxford road, just outside of Ballina town.
Included is a link to the Garmin Connect website which contains displays the route map and details including elevation levels. For those of you using Garmin bike computers or triathlon watches, the routes can be downloaded onto your device/watch.

Visiting Cyclists welcome on leisure spins
Ballina Cycling Club also welcomes visiting cyclists to its weekly leisure cycles which depart Ballina Swimming Pool at 8am every Sunday. Two groups depart catering to different levels of ability (and energy) and no-one gets left behind. There is usually a coffee stop or two along the way and it’s a great way to meet the locals and get a feel for the local countryside.
If you’re a member of Cycling Ireland, all you need to do is turn up; but no worries if not, you can join as a visitor – just talk to the leader on the day or drop a message to Ballina Cycling Club on Facebook.
Thanks to Michael and the team at Ballina Cycling Club for uploading these cycling routes in North Mayo – and happy wheeling!
