Alan Keegan, Manchester United Football Club’s stadium announcer is heading to Ballina in July to help launch this year’s Mayo Manchester Tradfest. The week-long, family-friendly event will be launched on Friday July 29, 2016 at 6pm at Bar Square, Ballina, with a special two-hour live broadcast on Midwest Radio.
Alan will host the six-day festival’s Gala Concert on Saturday 29 July at the Ballina Arts Centre. Known as ‘The Voice of Old Trafford’, Alan Keegan has been announcing the world-famous football stars at Manchester United and the National team’s stadium, Wembley since 2000. He is also an accomplished TV and radio broadcaster and author who has been involved with promoting Irish culture in Manchester for over thirty years. Tony Hennigan from Mayo Manchester says “We are delighted to be able to bring Alan over to Mayo and we would like to thank the Ballina Chamber and The Ice House Hotel in Ballina for helping us sponsor this unique visit.
Over 500 performers are expected to take part in this year’s Mayo Manchester Tradfest in a series of events to be held throughout Mayo North, which is expected to attract over 50,000 visitors.
Tony says: “We have received a tremendous amount of support for the festival both in Mayo and Manchester. As well as our official supporters we would like to acknowledge the help given to us by the Ballina Salmon Festival, who we have been working with for a number of years, their support for this new festival has been invaluable.
The six day festival has joined forces with the Attymass Gathering, the Giro De Baile cycle race, the In Humbert’s Footsteps re-enactment, the Siamsa Sraide Street Festival, the Kilkelly Heritage Day and the Bonniconlon Show to create one of the biggest festivals of its kind in Mayo.
“North Mayo is ideally suited for this type of festival with its numerous arts venues and the abundance of pubs who stage live music and dance. Although we are based in Ballina we will also be visiting Attymass, Bonniconlon, Crossmolina, Foxford, Kilkelly, Lahardane and Swinford.”
