Mayo County Council is delighted to announce that Phase 1 of the Monasteries of the Moy Greenway will be officially opened by Mr Michael Ring, T.D., Minister of State for Regional Economic Development , at Belleek, Ballina on Saturday next, 9th July, 2016 at 2pm.
Phase 1 of the Monasteries of the Moy Greenway is a 4km cycle/walkway which runs through the magnificent Belleek Woods, and finishes at Knockitanole. The much anticipated route takes its name from proliferation of Catholic ruins which pepper the route to Killala (more information on which can be found on the wonderfully informative sacredlandscapes.ie.)
The Greenway, the second route of its kind in County Mayo is a greenway for everyone, and is designed to accommodate walkers, cyclists, joggers, and dog owners alike, with mutual respect required for all.
To celebrate the occasion, a fun day of festivities is planned, and anyone interested in attending the event is most welcome. The group gathering will take place adjacent to Ballina Soccer Club.
Prior to the Greenway opening event, the people of Foxford will celebrate the opening of a fantastic community facility. The Foxford Recreational Park official opening ceremony will take place on Saturday 9th July 2016 at 12pm.
In addition to the existing playground facility a multi-use games area has been provided together with a Teen Zone. The facility will be a huge addition to the youth facilities available in the greater Foxford community.
Mr Michael Ring, T.D., Minister of State for Regional Economic Development will perform the official opening of this wonderful facility at 12pm. All are welcome to come along to this event.
