Within the framework of Moy Sessions V Ballina Arts Centre has pleasure in hosting a reading by two Mayo-based writers, poet Geraldine Mitchell and novelist Elizabeth Reape, on Friday 28th July at 8pm.
Join us at Ballina Arts Centre on the banks of the Moy for Moy Sessions V, a literary evening celebrating contemporary writing and the beauty and power of words.
Mayo-based poet Geraldine Mitchell accompanies us on an exploration of poetry
Geraldine Mitchell has been writing poetry since she moved to Mayo in 2000.
Her poetry has won many awards including the Amergin 2007 Creative Writing Award and the Patrick Kavanagh Poetry Award in 2008.
Her three collections (all published by Arlen House) are World without Maps (2011), Of Birds and Bones (2014) and Mountains for Breakfasts (2017).
Earlier publications include two novels for young people and a biography.
Novelist Elizabeth Reapy and her experience as a young writer
Mayo native and young author Elizabeth Reapy is beginning to achieve a prominent place in the Irish writing scene at present owing to her passion, drive and talent.
Her debut novel Red Dirt (Head of Zeus) won the 2016 Sunday Independent Newcomer of the Year at the Bord Gáis Energy Irish Book Awards.
Elizabeth also holds an MA in Creative Writing.
We look forward to an evening of celebration of contemporary Mayo – and Irish – literature in the company of Geraldine Mitchell and Elizabeth Reapy on Friday, 28th July.
