In what is one of the more unique and interesting experiences to cross our paths here in the Mayo North offices, we were very excited to hear about “Moonlight in Mayo“, taking place on Saturday 11th March. A sponsored moonlight Nephin hike, the event is a sponsored one in aid of Mayo Mountain Rescue Team.
Mayo Mountain Rescue is a voluntary organisation, who respond to distress calls throughout all of Mayo’s mountain ranges and highlands.
Walkers can choose from a 4km walk, which should take approximately two hours, or a 6km walk across the Nephin mountains which is likely to last in the region of four hours.
Both walks will be fully guided by experienced guides from Mayo Mountain Rescue. All walkers will meet at 5pm at Leonard’s Pub in Lahardane, where bus transport will be provided to the starting point. Refreshments will be served in after the climb back in Leonard’s.
The Moonlight in Mayo Nephin hike costs €30 per adult. A a family of two adults and two children, between the ages of 12 and 18 costs €90. No under 12s are permitted on the walk.
Warm clothing and suitable footwear should be worn.
