New Ballina Drama festival – the One Act Drama Festival – at the Ballina Arts Centre

New to the Drama Festival circuit this year, Ballina are hosting their inaugural One Act Drama festival, at the Arts Centre, Ballina from Nov 6th to 8th 2015.

In all, at this new Ballina drama festival nine groups will compete between open and confined competition, and we’re delighted that many have applied to take part in this new festival which runs, along with many others under  the watchful  eye of the Drama League of Ireland, culminating with the highest accumulators of scores, from various festivals, going on the the All Ireland Finals in December.

Traditionally, a group keen to reach the final, will travel to a number of festivals up and down the country. Already, in Ballina, we’ve had positive responses with regard to the staging of this event , and we’re confident that Ballina, a welcoming town with an excellent hospitality record, as well as three bumper nights of drama, has so much to offer all those who visit for the duration.

Eugene Loftus, instigator of this event, assures us that each night will offer a variety of three “One Act” Plays, and will surely entice followers of drama to Ballina, and it is his aim, together with his diligent backroom team, to introduce this level of drama to a whole new audience.

The adjudicator addresses the audience nightly, with a brief analysis of the plays staged, and then meets with each group at the popular festival club.  This, is the ultimate learning process for competing groups, as each performance is explored, discussed and dissected, allowing amateur groups to implement changes, improvements etc., in their quest to gather enough points to reach the final.

Anna Walker will adjudicate over the 3 nights. Anna, comes with high acclaim in this field and it’s a pleasure to have her on board for this first of many Ballina drama festivals.

Locals and visitors alike, will be able to avail of a “season ticket” details of which will be available on our Facebook page and at the Ballina Arts Centre 09673593
