The community-run 13km Ronan Clarke Trail Run and the 5km fun run/walk will take place on July, 24th, 2016 starting from Killala Community Centre, culminating in prizes and presentations in a myriad of categories. Proceeds from the event, held in memory of much-loved local community member and TV personality Ronan Clarke, will go to the Mayo Roscommon Hospice and the Killala GAA Benevolent Fund.
Members of Ronan’s local GAA club, Killala GAA will once again battle it out to win the Ronan Clarke Cup by being the first club member home on the 13km trail run. Last year’s winner, Shane Maheady, is preparing to hold the title but faces fierce competition on this wonderfully scenic Trail Run that brings competitors onto the beach near Ross, adding a challenging dynamic to the event.
This year, Ronan’ s ‘Ear to the Ground’ associate, Darragh McCullough will be in attendance to start the race and present the prizes.
Sinead Clarke, wife of the late Ronan Clarke, Sean and Sile, his parents, were joined at the launch on Ross Strand on Thursday 16th June by members of the Killala GAA club and by James Horan, former Mayo manager and GAA pundit who was delighted to attend and support this worthwhile fundraising event.
The race starts at 12pm, with registration open in Killala Community Centre from 10.30am,and afterwards, a delicious range of homemade treats and refreshments will be available courtesy of the Killala community.
Locals and visitors to the area are welcome to take part. The committee looks forward to extending a warm welcome to runners on the day.
