It’s one of our favourite times of the year, and Ballina looks set to paint the town green for the festivities this year. Taking place all over the town from March 14th – 17th, the St. Patricks Festival will have it all, from kids activities to treasure hunts, family runs, fireworks, parades and more. A must attend event for all the family, excitement is building ahead of the national holiday, and Ballina will be one of the most event-filled towns in the West to celebrate.
It all kicks off on Saturday March 14th where the Jackie Clarke Collection will be transformed into a hub of children’s activity with fun activities taking place from 12-2, finishing just in time for you to find a television and watch the mighty Irish take on Wales in the 6 nations rugby championship/
Sunday the 15th is Mother’s day, so why not celebrate this family day at Belleek with the family run for charity which takes place at noon with registration taking place at 11am. On Monday the 16th of March a treasure hunt will take place starting at Dillon’s at 2pm and traditional music will flow from all of the pubs all around the town that night. Get your green paint and costumes ready and get involved in the celebrations.
March 17th is the big day, and falling on a Tuesday this year the town will be awash with colour as the old rival’s battle it out in the annual GAA ex player’s game between Ardnaree and the Stephenites, taking place at James Stephens Park at 1pm, and preceded by an U10 and U12 tournament in the morning at 10am.
The grand parade will start at 4pm and will begin at Convent Hill Ballina. There will be live music on the streets until 8pm to provide the build up to an amazing fireworks display on the Moy, starting at 9pm. The Coca Cola Life fireworks display will be extra special this year and will close a superb festival in truly spectacular fashion.
