Crossmolina in Co. Mayo will celebrate St. Patrick’s Day once again this year with the spectacular Festival of Lights, with some new events in this year’s calendar! Probably the most original and fun St. Patrick’s Day festival in the country, this is a weekend you won’t want to miss.
Last year’s Electric Light Parade was the first of its kind in Ireland, and despite inclement weather conditions really captured the imagination of participants and spectators alike. The event is sure to attract interest once again from all over the country and beyond.
The illuminations spectacular will be part of the St. Patrick’s Festival Of Lights and the parade will take place at 7:30pm on St. Patrick’s Day, 17th March.
The parade will consist of traditional type floats, also cars, tractors, trucks, buses etc alongside marching bands and children from the local schools – all lit up in a dazzling array of colour. The town of Crossmolina itself will be decorated in a selection of lights and effects for the occasion.
The 2017 St. Patrick’s Electric Light Parade was even shortlisted for the All Ireland Community & Council Awards!
New this year is the Light the Night 5k run – a chipped and timed 5km run taking place on Friday March 16th at 7:30pm. Participants are invited to illuminate themselves in the most imaginative ways possible and take part in this fun 5km run, aimed at raising funds for the proposed Nephin Running Track.
And that’s not all – the weekend is set to be an incredible one with a host of other events planned.
