What is the Wild Atlantic Way Cycle Sportif?

The Wild Atlantic Way Cycle Sportif is a series of cycling events that will take place twice a year, every April and September, along the Wild Atlantic Way coastal route (from Kinsale in West Cork to Muff in Donegal) from 2018 to 2020. They draw attention to the Wild Atlantic Way as a cycling destination for international and domestic cyclists, and attract visitors across the entire route during the months of the Sportif.

Sports tourism is becoming increasingly popular in Ireland and it is hoped that the Wild Atlantic Way Cycle Sportif will become established on the calendar of sports enthusiasts and visitors as a premier, compelling and rewarding sporting occasion. The Cycle Sportif also has the capacity to bring tangible benefits to local areas, in terms of revenue and increased bed nights. This is of particular importance given that the Sportif’s events take place in off-season months.

The inaugural ride takes place along the route from 13th to 29th September 2017, and two events will take place each year over the period 2018 to 2020.

This September Ride Wild are organising the inaugural event and all interested cyclists and clubs are invited to saddle up and be the first to embark on what will soon be Europe’s signature cycling route.

Participants in the Sportif will have a number of registration options. They may choose to cover the full distance (over 2,500 km) over a set number of days, to complete a stage of the Sportif over a multi-day section of the route, or to join the event for a single day.
