Ballina has a very strong traditional arts heritage, encompassing music and dance and many other artforms. This is augmented by a thriving culture of young rock bands, sing-songwriters and musicians. The development of Ballina Arts Centre has offered support to visual artists by the provision of a visual arts space, and a growing programme of artists’ workshop and masterclasses as well as delivering a top-quality performance space for the North Mayo region for arts content of all types.
Ballina Arts Centre presents a wide variety of theatre, dance, music and film with a varied monthly programme. Theatre presentations range from touring/professional work to local, non-professional productions. The Centre’s policy aims for variety and quality of arts content.
Ballina Arts Centre is access-driven and participatory in ethos, and since its inception, it has developed and maintained strong links with a large number of local community groups. As part of the Centre’s Education programme, the venue also presents a programme of workshops, talks, seminars etc. around the exhibition programme.
