Herman Melville & Pittsfield, MA: A Talk by Jana Laiz 

Monday, 11th June, at 7pm

Jana Laiz is Writer-in-Residence at Herman Melville’s home in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, USA (sister city to Ballina). Her latest book is called Billy Budd in the Breadbox, The Story of Herman Melville & Eleanor.  Jana Laiz is an award-winning author of children’s and young adult books.  Taking place at the Ballina Arts Centre, on Monday, 11th June, at 7pm, she will read from the book and talk about Melville’s relationship with Pittsfield, and how it inspired his greatest work, the novel Moby Dick.  Tickets are only €5

Cast a Cold Eye: A Celebration of the Poetry of  WB Yeats 

Tuesday 12th June, at 7pm

On the eve of Yeats Day, Tuesday 12th June, at 7pm Ballina Arts Centre will present an evening celebrating the poetry of WB Yeats. Under the direction of Siobhan Leonard, a host of local voices will read (or sing) works by Ireland’s greatest poet.  This event promises to be a real treat!  Admission is free.  Raffle and donations in aid of the Laura Lynn Foundation – Ireland’s Children’s Hospice.

Ballina Folk Club in concert
