Ballina features prominently in new online series - Randy's West Coast Adventure - Visit North Mayo %

Canadian chef and travel enthusiast, Randy Lewis took to the road this summer and visited Ballina in North Mayo and Enniscrone in Sligo. He was making his new online series Randy’s West Coast Adventure.  Randy journeyed around the West Coast of Ireland, starting in beautiful Clare and ending in stunning Donegal. He took in the beautiful sights of Galway, Connemara, Mayo and Sligo along the way.

Salmon fishing in Ballina

The river Moy has long been renowned as Ireland’s premier river for salmon fishing. It offers options to suit all levels and budgets. In this episode we see Randy try his hand at salmon fishing right in Ballina town.

Up to this point Randy used to consider himself a fisherman! However, after a day out on the River Moy he clearly discovered he had a lot to learn… in this episode Randy is joined by friendly and very patient ghillie, Philip from the Inland Fisheries Ireland.

“Getting a chance to fish in the River Moy was really something else; putting on waders for the very first time and finding myself standing in the river waist-high in water I embarked on my first salmon fishing lesson” says Randy. “The River Moy really was an experience that I will remember for a long time”.

Seaweed baths in Enniscrone

He tops off the day with a visit to Kilcullen Seaweed Baths in Enniscrone. Randy loves tradition and what better way to finish wrap up the day than with a relaxing soakage at Kilcullen century-old baths which are literally steeped in history.  A completely natural and therapeutic experience Randy warms up after a day in the water with a steam in an unconventional wooden cabinet with just his head sticking out as his body is gently steamed and finishing off with a sea water and seaweed bath…
