The Crossmolina Homecoming Festival is back this year, and with the emphasis on welcoming back old friends and family, this family-focused, community-run festival in Crossmolina, Co. Mayo promises more events than ever. The festival runs from Wednesday 18th to Sunday 22nd July 2018 and caters for people of all ages. From sports and games for the children, and comedy and country nights for teenagers and adults, there is fun for everyone. This local festival is not to be missed! Nephin’s Haven is the place to be this July.
Each day sees a headline event run alongside fringe events such as workshops, masterclasses or children’s entertainment. There’ll be lots to look forward to and get involved in over this vibrant week. We’d love to offer you a taste of what is in store at Crossmolina Homecoming Festival day by day.
WEDNESDAY 18th July
Official Opening of Crossmolina Homecoming Festival, Church St., 8PM
Family Street Fest, Church St., from 8PM – FREE event
During the Street Fest, you’ll experience exhibitions of Crossmolina’s natural and cultural heritage with North Mayo Heritage Centre, Enniscoe, Crossmolina. Witness a blacksmith at work and try your hand at arts and crafts. If you’ve ever wondered how a sheep is sheared, you’ll be able to find out this evening. Did you know that bee keeping was a common country pursuit in your great grandparents time, and there is a craft involved in tending bees?
Come along and enjoy meeting family and friends on Church Street with music, dancing, BBQ, boxty, open fire pan-fried seafood and more. There’ll be dancing displays with the Danceblast Hip Hop Crew, Sheila Moffatt Irish Dancers, Tommy Stenson and the Jiving Juniors. Take a trip down memory lane as the Festival invites all the past residents of Church Street to join in the Homecoming 2018.

Marc Roberts – Homecoming Show at Crossmolina Homecoming Festival (19th July)

In this headline Festival event, join Marc Roberts in a Tribute to the Music of John Denver in Hiney’s Upper Deck with support from Rebecca Mulhaire (Singing Pubs 2017 Winner) in association with Ballina Manor Hotel. Tickets are on sale at local outlets and on Ticketmaster.

Little Gem Puppets present a lively and interactive puppet show based on a well-known folk tale for ages 8 and under. Registration is essential.

The Animal Roadshow, Town Hall, 1PM to 5PM – FREE event
Come along to The Animal Roadshow, a mobile education program to introduce you to a variety of exotic animals (lizards, snakes, owls, creepy crawlies and more) There is no registration required, no limit on numbers or ages and the roadshow is open from 1pm to 5pm. Children and adults will both enjoy meeting these creatures and remember to bring your camera to record the moment.
FRIDAY, 20th July
“LIVE AT 2”, a Country Music Special, Town Hall, 2PM – over 18s. FREE event
It’s music, dancing, chat and comedy once again at “Live at 2” in association with the Crossmolina Drama Group. Join Frank Forde, Gerry Rowland and surprise guests in the Town Hall at 2pm. Tap your feet and sway along to a dancing display from the “Jiving Juniors” as seen on the Late Late Show. Be a part also of a special occasion – there will be the Homecoming Launch of a new book entitled A Happy Type of Sadness – A Journey through Irish Country Music written by Crossmolina native, Kevin Martin.
Gardener’s World and Cake Sale, outside Old Davis’s Store and along bank of River Deel, 10.30AM
The Tidy Towns Committee hold their 11th Gardener’s World and Cake Sale. Enjoy the sight of lots of home baking, organically grown vegetables, and make friends with some chickens and hens. Come along and enjoy a cup of tea!

There’ll be lots of imaginative arts and crafts. Suitable for children aged 5 and over.

Dance along to some great tunes at Inferno! The Youth Disco is the happening place to be for first, second and third years.
SATURDAY, 21st July
Teddy Bears and family PICNIC, Crossmolina Playground, 2PM – FREE event
This year we invite families to join in the annual Teddy Bears’ Picnic at the playground. Bring along your picnic and join in the family homecoming theme of the festival with bouncy castles, games and fun activities. Enjoy a day out for all the family from 2pm.
Family Cycle, Crossmolina GAA pitch, 11am – FREE event
Come along and enjoy this leisurely cycle for all the family hosted by North Mayo Leisure Cycle Club. Remember to bring your helmuts and hi-viz jackets as they are mandatory.
Scenic Family Walk, starts from the Bothy in Letterkeen Wood, 11AM – FREE (limited transport available from Crossmolina). Directions will be signposted from Keenagh Crossroads.
Suitable for children aged 6 and over.
Join tour guide, Derek Davidson from Walk West Ireland on a leisurely 5km walk through the Nephin Beg mountains, visiting historical caves along one of the many rivers in the Wild Nephin Park.

Family Fun Day, Sports & BBQ, Abbeytown/Abbeyview, 1PM-4PM – FREE event
A free fun filled activity packed day including bouncy castles, novelty races, games and tasty barbecue food. This is a great family day out!
Singing Pubs Grand Final, O’Malley’s Bar, doors open at 8.30PM. Admission: €10
Eight finalists battle it out to become the Singing Pubs Winner 2018 and receive a great prize. Join Compere Ben Tierney and Special Guest Judge Mickey Joe Harte (Ireland Eurovision candidate, 2003, “We’ve Got the World”) as we listen to great voices, sing along and try to figure who’ll scoop the Singing Pubs crown this year. There’ll be dancing on the evening with Wavelength.
Junior Fishing Competition hosted by Lough Conn & Cullen Anglers, Gortnor Abbey Pier, 10.30AM – FREE event
