The rich biodiversity of the Enniscoe Estate has long been recognised as being truly unique, not just in Mayo but nationally and internationally. The Enniscoe Biodiversity Blitz, which takes place from September 28th to September 29th in Enniscoe, Crossmolina will give members of the public an opportunity to come and explore the estate with trained guides and experts from many different fields, such as Inland Fisheries Ireland, The National Parks and Wildlife Service, Birdwatch Ireland, the Mayo Organic Group and many others.

Below is the 2018 run through of an amazing event

The North Mayo Heritage Centre joined the Irish National Phenology Network in 2011 and has recently been included for monitoring in the 2021 Butterfly Atlas. Experts who visited Enniscoe from The Biodiversity Data Centre in 2017 were surprised at just how rich the biodiversity is and the fact that it had never been fully documented or recorded.

The North Mayo Heritage Centre operates an organic garden which supplies a number of the leading restaurants in the area as well as selling to the public at the farm gate. The garden has been certified organic for 23 years. In 2016 produce from the garden was short listed by Bord Bia for a National Organic Food Award. Within the garden is a special bee garden to attract pollinators.

Enniscoe BioDiversity Blitz

The Enniscoe Biodiversity Blitz is a FREE to attend event for the public, community groups and especially families. Visitors will have access to experts from different fields to learn of the delicate relationship between flora & fauna, the landscape & ourselves, which in turn will help inform and educate in a fun way.

Guided walks will take place on the estate and in the gardens each morning and afternoon, starting from the North Mayo Heritage Centre, along with workshops and illustrated talks in the Courtyard.
