Erris to host Ireland's biggest windsurfing event this weekend - Visit North Mayo

As if we didn’t know it already, but Erris and County Mayo in general is continuing to establish itself as the epicentre of adventure sports activities. Last weekend saw a host of competitors take part in the Blacksod Point Challenge Triathlon in this stunning location. This weekend is no different, as Mayo Mayhem, Irelands biggest windsurfing event takes place on Elly Beach, Belmullet in North Mayo.

The event takes place on Friday 6th October and Saturday, 7th October. Participants and spectators will enjoy the strong winds and good size waves that are predicted, all of which should result in some specular jumping and wave riding.

This year, Mayo Mayhem is a two-star ranked world tour event, attracting the best windsurfers from Ireland and abroad coming to compete in what could be the windiest place in Europe – Belmullet!

If past events are anything to go by, then an epic weekend lies ahead in Erris. Take a look at the video below of last years event which was held in Achill to see what is in store for Belmullet, which ironically was voted as ‘the best place to go wild in Ireland’. It will be an amazing sight, full of bright colours, tremendous skill and plenty of excitement.

We at Mayo North Tourism wish the event organisers and volunteers the best of wishes for the days ahead. If you are in the vicinity, be sure to pop by and check out this really unique event.
