To celebrate the 160th anniversary of the much loved Blacksod Lighthouse ComharChumann Forbartha Ionad Deirbhile will host an open day at Blacksod Lighthouse from 12:00 to 4:00pm
Visitors will be welcomed into the building in controlled numbers
Guides will be present throughout the day to manage visitor flow and provide information as required.
6 historical interpretation posters will be displayed in Gallery 2 of the lighthouse, history of Blacksod from Pete Gouldings research.
Coastguard helicopter will be in attendance for public engagement & walk around Ballyglass coastguard unit to attend & Local RNLI. Will also be in attendance.

Night Ceremony @ Lighthouse – open public

Sea shanty singers will entertain the attendees as 160 candles are handed out.
Guests present will be asked to stand in the marked-out numbers which will form the numbers 160 & we will fly drone above to capture this
A few words recalling that first night when the Light was lite for the first time followed by either CEO or chairman of Irish Lights, handing over candle to Vincent Sweeney the current lighthouse keeper who bring the candle into the tower at 10:30pm, once in the lantern room the main lighthouse light will be switched on to mark the moment 160 years ago when the light first was lit.
Radio 1 will broadcast its program live from the lighthouse from 10.30pm
