Day Trips to Bartra Island in the Moy Estuary:
Get to really know the wildlife that lives on our Wild Atlantic Way coastline here in North Mayo by taking a foraging trip with Denis from Wild Atlantic Cultural Tours. Denis is a Fáilte Ireland approved guide, with a BA Hons in Heritage Studies and his foraging tours in North Mayo will run throughout the summer months.
Enjoy the beautiful surroundings of Killala Bay with a guided walk and forage of the coastline. Denis will take you over the vast strand to the isolated Bartra Island, walking through the crystal clear streams with tiny fish and shrimp darting for cover, keeping an eye out for sleeping seals or noisy herons among other wildlife.
June is a great time to reconnect with nature, and no better place than Killala Bay. Forage for cockles and mussels (recipes supplied) while learning a little about the local environment, history and archaeology. Wellies essential – but can be provided.
