Féile na Samhna Swinford - October 28th - 30th - Visit North Mayo

The seventh annual Féile na Samhna Swinford will  take place in Swinford from October 28th – 30th. The committee is planning a real feast of traditional Irish music, song, storytelling and dance hosted by the Michael Davitt Comhaltas group and supported as always by the generosity of the businesses of the town.

Féile na Samhna Swinford Programme of Events

Saturday 28th October:

11am – 1pm: Singing workshops for children and adults

2:30pm: Fáiltiú – the official opening in the Gateway Hotel,followed by “Marching to the beat of the Drum with the fifes and pipes” – a presentation with tunes and a chat to celebrate the legacy of the marching bands from nearby Killasser, Killaturley, Meelick, Midfield and Swinford. A really unique afternoon, not to be missed!

9pm: Oíche Amhtránaíochta. Enjoy a night of singing, storytelling, recitations and caint in the Meeting Room at Mellett’s of Market Street.

Music Sessions will take place in the pubs throughout the towns on Saturday evening, so get in and enjoy!

Sunday 29th October

Morning: The Midfield Pipe Band will give a recital at the church after last mass, followed by a march to the town centre where they will convene in Main Street for another recital.

5PM: “The Rambling House” in the Gateway Hotel, Main Street. A party with singing, music, dancing, storytelling and recitation. Everyone who comes to visit and celebrate will be treated to a traditional Irish welcome, with the best of Irish fare, including delicious boxty! Theme this year focuses on the welcome given to returning emigrants. “They’re landed!” Failte Abhaile to “the Yanks”!

Monday 30th October

11am: Historical walk around Swinford with Michael Comer, followed by a cuppa and chat.
