We’re looking forward to savouring a week of traditional music at Fleadh Cheoil Mhaigh Eó 2019 in Foxford, Co. Mayo from 6th to 12th May 2019. This locality, birthplace of Admiral William Brown, enjoys a long musical tradition, and excitement about the Mayo Fleadh has been building in recent months. The last time the Mayo Fleadh came to the town of Foxford was in two consecutive years in 1963 and 1964. Each May, one of sixteen Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann branches in Mayo hosts the event and this year, the local Admiral Brown branch welcomes Fleadh Cheoil Mhaigh Eó to the musical town of Foxford. A voluntary organisation, Comhaltas works to preserve and promote Irish traditional music, song, dance and language.
Come to visit Foxford in May 2019 to hear Mayo traditional music at its best
The Mayo Fleadh is set to be a major and unmissable cultural event in Mayo in 2019, providing the opportunity for visitors to enjoy live Irish traditional music played by experienced musicians. Violinists, accordionists and whistle players will figure among the musicians competing in Foxford at Fleadh Mhaigh Eó 2019. Many of them have been playing from a young age in Mayo areas steeped in the Irish musical tradition. The organisers hope that this year’s event will promote traditional Irish culture and engage with young people in the region.
