Foxford Comes Alive Tonight as Argentina Fever Sweeps the Town Ahead of the World Cup Final - Visit North Mayo

Foxford is set for a memorable evening of music, community spirit and world-class football as the town celebrates its unique connection with Argentina ahead of tonight’s FIFA World Cup Final.

As the birthplace of Admiral William Brown, the founder of the Argentine Navy and one of Argentina’s greatest national heroes, Foxford has become affectionately known as Ireland’s “Little Argentina”. With blue and white flags flying proudly alongside the green and red of Mayo, the town is ready to cheer on Argentina once again.

The celebrations begin at 6.30pm at The Moy Hotel, where visitors and locals can enjoy an evening of traditional Irish music from The Dohertys, Doocey’s, the Mc’Hughs and Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann Admiral Brown Branch.

Adding a special international flavour to the evening, Argentinian piper Pamela Schweblin will lead a musical procession through the streets of Foxford before supporters make their way to watch the World Cup Final.

Kick-off is at 8.00pm, with Guiry’s Bar hosting what promises to be an electric match-night atmosphere as Argentina takes on Spain in the World Cup Final.

Foxford’s bond with Argentina stretches back almost 250 years to the birth of Admiral William Brown in 1777. Revered as the “Father of the Argentine Navy”, Brown played a pivotal role in Argentina’s fight for independence and remains one of the country’s most celebrated historical figures. Today, that remarkable connection continues to bring visitors from across Argentina to North Mayo, strengthening the cultural ties between the two communities.
