Music lovers from far and near will enjoy a feast of traditional music, song and dance this October as Foxford Traditional Weekend gets underway from the 17th – 20th October 2019. The town which is a haven for many musicians will host the annual event and there is a serious line-up for this year’s festival.
A warm welcome awaits you in Foxford for a weekend of Traditional Irish Music, Song & Dance for all ages with concerts, master classes, workshops, music sessions rambling house and lots, lots more. Foxford is a small town in county Mayo, on the west coast of Ireland, steeped in Irish music.
So, Foxford prepares to welcome you to the fifth annual Foxford Traditional Weekend. Their aim is to highlight our local culture of Irish Music, Song and Dance and make it accessible through a fun environment, where all ages can learn and further their skills at the workshops or just come along and soak up the atmosphere.
The success of the weekend comes from the vast wealth of local and visiting musicians and performers and their longstanding efforts to pass on and display their skills and knowledge of Irish Music, Song, Dance and Storytelling. The Foxford area is home to many musicians and tutors who are known not only countrywide, but worldwide, and we are lucky enough to have many of them teaching and performing over the weekend.
The Foxford Traditional Weekend ‘Féile Concert’ will take place on Saturday 19th October at 8pm in St. Joseph’s Secondary School will feature the ‘Guest Tutors’, and world renown harp & flute duo, Michael Rooney & June McCormack. The concert will also include Úrnua (Carl Hession, Francis Cunningham & Eimear Coughlan) who will launch their new CD on the night. We very much look forward to the performance of Gráinne Hambly & the Music Generation Mayo Harp Ensemble, on this, National Harp Day. Clare musicians Mark Burke, Cathal Corbett & David Crowe are back again this year (at this stage we could call them resident musicians) and the beautiful singer, Olivia McTiernan will also feature.
Other visiting musicians, weekend tutors and participants of the Harp and Mixed Instrument Master Classes will also perform.
This promises to be a great night of music, song and dance. Tickets on the door – Adults €10 and under 18s €5.
