Green Flags galore in North Mayo - Visit North Mayo

A number of public parks and gardens in County Mayo have been awarded 2020 Green Flag awards. The Green Flag Award recognises and rewards well managed parks and green spaces, across Ireland and around the world.

The Jackie Clarke Collection have been awarded their fourth Green Flag. Adjacent to the museum building, you’ll find the peaceful Walled Heritage Garden – a beautiful oasis of calm in the heart of Ballina town.

Mayo County Council also picked up a Green Flag Award for Turlough Park. Turlough Park is located just outside Castlebar town and around half an hour’s drive from Ballina.

The National Parks and Wildlife Service were awarded a Green Flag for Wild Nephin Ballycroy National Park. Wild Nephin Ballycroy National Park is Ireland’s sixth National Park and is located on the Western seaboard in North West Mayo. It comprises of 11,000 hectares (110 km²) of Atlantic blanket bog and mountainous terrain.

The North Mayo Heritage Centre located in the grounds of Enniscoe House were also awarded a Green Flag. Adjacent to the Centre is a Victorian 3 acre walled organic garden which supplies fresh organic produce to individuals and businesses alike.

Three Green Flag Community Award winners in Mayo were – Ballina Karen Community Garden, Ballyhaunis Community Garden, and Kilmaine Community Garden.
