The spooky season is upon us once again. See below our guide to some Halloween events and festivities for young and old in North Mayo. Whether you are in Ballina, Attymass, Killala, Ballycastle, Ballycroy, Straide, Belmullet or Crossmolina there is something for all ages and interests in the coming days!



FOR THE KIDS…..
Jackie Clarke Collection are hosting a fabulous Hocus Pocus event on Saturday 29th with events running all day from 10am. Activities include fun and games with Ballina Costume Company; a cake sale; spooky sceals sponsored by Ballina Manor Hotel; the Mount Falcon Estate Birds of Prey a monster raffle and prizes for best dressed. All in aid of River Moy Search And Rescue.
North Mayo Heritage Centre, Crossmolina have a “Trick or Treat’ Enniscoe House event. Suitable for ages 2-10yrs, enjoy a train ride, a visit to the witch in her house and lots of goodies. It takes place on Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th.
Attymass N.S Parents Association are hosting their annual kids fancy dress party from 6.30pm – 8.00pm on Sunday. Taking place in Attymass Community Centre, all are welcome to attend. There will be treats, prizes, games a disco and of course, plenty of fun.
Ballina Arts Centre are hosting the Embers Children’s Film Festival from the 28th – 30th October. It includes live-action, animation and feature films including: The Gremlin, Mary & The Witches Flower; Disneys Pixar’s Luca, A Little Princess; and Ernest and Celestine.
The Michael Davitt Museum in Straide, Foxford are all set for a spooktacular event on Monday, 31st October at 5.30pm. Meet ghosts from the past and hear stories of their lives!! Be there if you dare! Admission is free of charge.
Ballycroy Visitor Centre – Wild Nephin National Park have family friendly events running from Saturday October 29th until Thursday November 3rd. All events free of charge and will take place from 12noon. Events include: Pumpkin and Turnip Carving Demonstrations on the 29th; Old Halloween Games and Crafts on the 30th; Haunting Halloween story time on the 31st. A Treasure Hunt of a Beastly Kind around the Tóchar Daithí Bán on the 1st & 2nd. Finally on Thursday 4th there will be a tree themed workshop where you can learn what happens to our trees over autumn and into winter with our workshop: The Trees are Alive.
Visit Belmullet will host a Spooky Drive in Movie in the Town park, Belmullet on Monday 31st October. The first movie ‘Hotel Transylvania’ commences at 5.30pm with tickets on sale from 5.00pm. The second movie ‘Hocus Pocus 2’ commences at 8.00pm. Tickets cost €15per car sold on the night.
Kiddies Korner in Ballycastle, Co.Mayo are having a scary Halloween Walk from 7.00pm on Sunday the 30th, followed by a fun, games and a disco in the hall until 9.00pm. All children must be supervised by an adult.
Aras Inis Gluaire, Belmullet have a very spooky event this Halloween. Taibhse Sa Teach – Haunted House will take place on the 29th and 30th of October in The Church Of Ireland. WARNING: This s a spooky event therefore all under 12s must be accompanied by an adult a! Book your time slot now on 097-81079. Tickets: Adults – €8 and Under 18s – €6.


FOR THE ADULTS…..
Halloween events in North Mayo do not just cater for children. There are however a host of fun things for adults also.
Bar Square are kicking off on the 25th October at 9pm with a Trivia Night:- Timeless Thrillers! There are loads of prizes to be won. On Monday 31st, Halloween Night Motion presents Fionn Curran for a fun filled fancy dress party. Over 18s only. Doors will be open at 9.00pm.
Craoibhín Ballina are having an afternoon tea dance on Thursday 27th from 1pm – 3pm in the Kennedy Glasgow Centre, Ballina.
The Acres Killala are having an adults fancy dress party on Sunday 30th October. Therefore, enjoy some vraid, live music and great entertainment on the night.
Hogans Ballina have a great fancy dress organised in Sunday 30th with a €100 voucher for the best costume up for grabs. They also have cocktail vouchers for the best trick or treat!
The Cot & Cobble Ballina have an 80’s & 90’s themed music night in aid of Mayo Roscommon Hospice on Saturday 29th. Fancy dress is optional, but with DJ Dermot Rice on the decks it promises to be a great night.
And we could not leave out…..a serious weekend of football. CillChomainGAA and MoygownaghGAA play County finals this weekend on Saturday and Sunday respectively! At 2.30pm on Sunday, the Mayo GAA Senior Club Football Championship clash between Ballina Stephenites GAA Club and Westport G.A.A takes place. Whilst this match is taking place in Castlebar, Ballina will be a sea of green and red on Sunday, so get out and soak up the atmosphere. Best of luck to our North Mayo teams!
