We are delighted to announce that In Humbert’s Footsteps 2014, overall National Winner of the “Best Gathering Event of the Year ” award for 2013 will be taking place on the streets of Ballina, from June 25th -29th, 2014.
This year’s events will see bigger, louder and more spectacular 1798 battle re-enactments, including twice as many authentically uniformed French, British and Irish Re-Enactors, twice the number of cannon, muskets, swords, pikes and twice as much dramatic spectacle as was seen last year.
It will also include a genuine 1798 Living History Military Camp where members of the public can meet and engage with the French, the Redcoats, and the Irish Rebel Pikemen, and experience what life was like for a soldier in 1798. In Humbert’s Footsteps 2014 will also incorporate photographic exhibitions, heritage events, a 1798-themed banquet, craic agus ceoil, and loads more fun for all the family.
Re-enactors from France, Ireland, Northern Ireland, England, Germany and Switzerland, many of whom took part in last year’s events, are coming to Ballina to re-create some of the military engagements associated with the 1798 Rebellion in the region and General Humbert’s time in Ballina, beginning with a torchlight arrival into the town by Bóthar na Sop – ‘The Road of the Straw’ – just as it occurred some 216 years ago! In Humbert’s Footsteps 2014 is surely an event not to be missed.
