Kwaidan Exhibiton - Ballinglen Museum of Art : 20th April- 4th May - Visit North Mayo

‘Kwaidan – Encounters with Lafcadio Hearn’  opens at the Ballinglen Museum of Art on the 20th of April from 4pm until 7pm. Opening night includes a performance at 5:30pm by composer and performer Neil O Connor, entitled Yōkai, it is a sound installation inspired by the work of Lafcadio Hearn . The Exhibition will then run until May 24th, Monday – Friday, 12 – 5pm, and on the weekends 1-5pm.

About this Kwaidan exhibition

The book – ‘Kwaidan’ – was authored by Patrick Lafcadio Hearn in 1904, which stands as his literary masterpiece. Raised in Ireland, Hearn absorbed the storytelling tradition, honed his skills in the United States, and achieved acclaim for his works in Japan. This exhibition showcases the interpretations of 40 artists from Ireland and Japan inspired by Hearn’s eerie tales. Organised by Irish artists Stephen Lawlor, Kate MacDonagh, and Ed Miliano of Blue Moon Projects, the exhibition presents contemporary fine art printmaking and photography. Mr. Norio Maruyama, Ambassador of Japan to Ireland, will inaugurate the exhibition, which will also feature a performance by Neil O’Connor inspired by Hearn’s work.

‘Kwaidan – Encounters with Lafcadio Hearn’  will be on display at The Ballinglen Museum of Art from April 20th to May 24th. For more information and a list of exhibiting artists, click here.
