The Mangan Brothers – Kenneth, Jarlath and Trevor – have been recognised at the Mayo People of the Year Awards, receiving the Business Liaison Award in acknowledgment of their long-standing commitment to community support, inclusion and compassion.
The award, presented by The Connaught Telegraph, Mayo County Council and RehabCare, celebrates the exceptional community impact the brothers have made through their Mocha Beans outlets across Mayo and beyond.
Since opening their first coffee shop in Ballina in 2006, the brothers have grown their business to six outlets and two mobile units nationwide, employing over 55 people full-time. From the outset, Mocha Beans has been more than just a café. Its welcoming spaces have provided a safe and familiar environment for individuals navigating addiction and mental health challenges.
Their ethos of community care has been evident throughout the years. In 2008, the brothers opened their doors on Christmas Day to support customers who faced spending the day alone, offering food and company free of charge. Most recently, in 2024, they hosted a fundraiser for Mayo Roscommon Hospice in collaboration with Michael Carr of Carr Meats, Ballina, raising over €11,000.
The brothers expressed their gratitude in a post on social media, saying it was a “massive honour” to receive the award, thanking their loyal customers, dedicated staff and the organisations involved in the recognition.
The celebrations continue this week as the Mangan family prepare for the Family Business Awards, where they are also shortlisted.
