Expanded Irish Citylink Services Deliver Major Boost for Mayo Connectivity
Communities across North Mayo are set to benefit from significantly improved public transport connectivity following the announcement of expanded services by Irish Citylink, a long-standing member and supporter of Mayo North Tourism.
The transport provider has confirmed a major investment in services across County Mayo, including three additional daily return services on the Ballina–Galway route and two additional daily return services on the Castlebar–Dublin/Dublin Airport route.

The expanded timetable, approved by the National Transport Authority, will improve frequency, flexibility and accessibility for passengers travelling throughout Mayo, Galway and Dublin, while supporting commuters, students, tourism, local businesses and communities across the region.
The enhanced Ballina–Galway route is particularly significant for North Mayo, serving key towns and communities including Ballina, Foxford, Ballyvary, Castlebar, Balla and Claremorris, while also strengthening onward connectivity to Tuam and Galway City.
The additional services come at an important time following the withdrawal of Expressway services on Route 52 and will help maintain vital transport links for people living and working along the corridor.
The new timetables will officially come into effect on Sunday, 24 May 2026, with tickets available to book online from Friday, 22 May 2026.

Manager of Mayo North Tourism, Mairéad Melody Carr, welcomed the announcement:

The additional Ballina to Galway services in particular will be hugely beneficial for people commuting, studying, visiting family or exploring the west of Ireland.”
Speaking on the announcement, Regional General Manager of Irish Citylink, Sarah Comer, said the investment represents “a significant boost for County Mayo and for the communities we serve across Ballina, Castlebar, Foxford, Claremorris and surrounding areas.”
She added that reliable public transport is essential for regional life, connecting people to work, education, healthcare, tourism and onward national and international travel links.
