30 short videos tell the stories of some the people and businesses that make up the tourism offering from Ballina to Belmullet
A unique insight into the people and stories behind many of the tourism-related businesses in North Mayo will be revealed in a series of 30 short videos being launched by Mayo North Tourism, entitled ‘People and Places of North Mayo’. The first video of the series launches on Tuesday, March 14 featuring Caffrey’s Gallery, Ballina, and each video will give potential visitors a chance to experience the diverse offering in the area through the unique perspectives of the people who live and work here.
The short films, captured by local videographer, Fionn Rogers, feature a combination of interviews, behind-the-scenes shots and some of the stunning landscapes of North Mayo. Over the next few months, the videos will be released on a regular basis. They will be available to view on the network’s social media channels and on their website, www.mayonorth.ie. The series forms part of an ongoing marketing campaign by Mayo North Tourism to encourage and increase the number of visitors to the area in a sustainable manner.
Mayo North Tourism Manager, Mairéad Melody Carr said: “Not only does this series promote the amazing sites and places of interest in our area, but it gives a unique and important insight into our greatest strength – the people behind the businesses and organisations that make our destination so very special! The videos are very emotive; when you listen to the unique stories of the people involved and you hear the passion and pride that people have in promoting their businesses and North Mayo in general, it is impossible not to feel proud of what we have to offer.”
Variety of tourist attractions included
Mayo North Tourism’s members include well-known major tourist attractions, such as the Céide Fields Visitor Centre, and the Connacht Distillery, and lesser-known experiences and activities including wool spinning with Annie from Killala Woolcraft and boat trips to the deserted Inishkea Islands with Geraghty Charters or Blacksod Sea Safari.
Mairéad said: “Video content works very well from a promotional perspective particularly in travel and tourism sectors, and we have such a variety and diversity of offering in this area, it would be a shame not to showcase it and our people to the world! The hope is that we will eventually be able to offer a short promotional video opportunity to all members as part of their membership package.”
