More about Mayo North Tourism Initiative

Established in 2013, Mayo North Tourism has been dedicated to promoting the tourism offerings of Ballina, North Mayo, and the surrounding hinterlands. We have worked collaboratively with the community, receiving support from Mayo County Council, Moy Valley Resources, and Ballina Chamber of Commerce. This support has enabled Mayo North Tourism to create a strong public profile for the region which essentially covers from Ballina to Belmullet and everywhere in between, increasing its visibility and attractiveness as a tourism destination.

– Our Marketing and Our Audience

We actively market and promote the region, its festivals and events annually to our substantial online audience, approaching nearly 100,000. We were delighted to have achieved an overall reach on our social channels of over 2.6 million in 2023, with very high levels of engagement. Through our tourism destination website,, which is updated daily, we have successfully grown our online presence.

– LEADER Funded Initiatives

In 2022, Mayo North Tourism secured LEADER funding for an 18-month promotional program. This program included a comprehensive PR initiative, featuring the region on national TV, radio, print media, and online publications. We also produced a series of over 30 short videos highlighting the ‘People and Places of North Mayo’, showcasing local hospitality and business providers. A substantial investment in social media advertising and a specially commissioned high-quality photo bank further contributed to promoting the area.

Mayo North Tourism’s strategic efforts in media relationship-building resulted in high-profile personalities, including Roz Purcell and Sophie Anderton, visiting, and promoting the area in 2023. Collaborating with our members we also hosted many visiting journalists and celebrities and content creators creating a positive impact on North Mayo’s visibility.

– Collaboration – Our Community and Our Members

Our members’ business support has been integral to Mayo North Tourism’s nomination for the Cathaoirleach’s Awards in Community Tourism. Whether we win, lose, or draw, this nomination is a collective acknowledgment of everyone’s contributions. It emphasises that every effort, regardless of size, plays a vital role in shaping North Mayo as a standout destination. The pride and unity stemming from this nomination are a victory in itself, highlighting the strength derived from a community working together towards a shared objective.

Can you find a more fantastic community to live, work, and promote? 😊 We certainly don’t believe so! Thank you once again to all for your ongoing support.
