Nephin Up and Over Challenge - 13th April 2019 - Visit North Mayo

Hot on the heels of the highly anticipated Mayo Mud Run comes the Nephin Up and Over Challenge.

Now in its third year, the fantastic Nephin Up and Over Challenge on the region’s highest mountain takes place on Saturday, April 13th at 1pm. The competition, which starts and finishes in Lahardane, consists of a road run and ascent of Nephin, a descent down the other side and a road run back to the village.

Beautiful Nephin mountain, standing at 806 metres is even higher than Croagh Patrick. The views from the summit are breathtaking and encompass Clew Bay to the west and Lough Conn and Lough Cullen to the east. Legend has it that on a clear day, you can see seven counties from the top.

Afterwards, there’ll be a prizegiving ceremony in Murphy’s Pub, Lahardane Village, and of course some refreshments and entertainment too.

The Up and Over Challenge is a fundraiser for three great local causes – Glen Neiphin Men’s Shed, Nephin View Restoration Group and Lahardane Tidy Towns Group.

Times to beat

In 2017, the male winner, David Sands romped home in 1hr 27m 32s, while  Rachel Nolan took the women’s title in 1h 52m 22s.
