The Pod Mayo: Bringing a piece of Italy to Ballina and Beyond - Visit North Mayo

If you’re a pizza, pastry or coffee lover, be sure to pop by The Pod Mayo during your Mayo North adventures. Based in Ballina, this family-run business is operated by Tony and Susan McCready. They bring a piece of Italy to the region by creating delicious, handmade, authentic Neapolitan-style pizza and serving Italian pastries and coffee.

The team at The Pod Mayo creates their mouth-watering authentic Italian pizza with great love and attention. They use premium Italian and Irish produce with a clear passion for quality ingredients and flavours. The result is simple: absolutely delicious pizza!

The following ‘People and Places of North Mayo’ video series shows the origins of the Pizza Pod. In this, we met up with Tony as he shares with us his passion for pizza. From waiting tables in Italy to opening to opening The Pizza Pod ( a small mobile business) and now since this video was created they have now continued their incredible journey to a vibrant new shop in Ballina town centre.

Inside The Pod: A Vibrant New Chapter

Inside The Pizza Pod, on Tone Street, Ballina opened in 2025 and has become a firm favourite with locals and visitors alike. Just over a year after launching The Pizza Pod, they re-branded and evolved into ‘Inside The Pod’, serving delicious handmade Italian pastries and coffee, as well as pizza slices.

Commitment to Community and Inclusion

With a dedication to quality and authenticity, Inside The Pod continues to serve up their beloved Neapolitan-style pizzas in a warm and welcoming environment. This expansion underscores the business’s commitment to the community, inclusivity, and social responsibility.

A key aspect is their inclusive hiring approach. Through collaboration with Ready To Work and the South West Mayo Development Company, Tony and Susan have welcomed new team members, supporting employability and social inclusion within the local workforce. Due to their professional backgrounds, the owners include awareness of marginalised groups, mental health, and disability into their business model. They are proud to be the first business in Ballina with all staff trained in Autism Awareness Training and are the first Ballina Autism Friendly Town Champions.

They also proudly support local suppliers, sourcing top-quality ingredients from Glasrai, Joe Kelly, Clive’s Butcher Foxford, and Cunniffe’s Butchers Ballaghaderreen, among others. This dedication to working with local producers ensures the freshest ingredients and supports businesses across Mayo and its surrounds.
