Virtual International Dark Sky Week; 19th - 26th April 2020 - Visit North Mayo

This annual week of events might be remarkably different for 2020 but nevertheless, it gives us all an opportunity to connect with our night skies, to consider the amazing habitat we have overhead and to reconnect with loved ones far away.

As they can’t get to all the Mayo communities they had hoped this year, here’s their programme of short video events starting Sunday April 19th 2020

Aspects of Astrophotography – selected shots & insights from photographers who’ve captured iconic photos of Mayo’s night skies.

Dánta in the Dark – a medley of writers and reciters celebrating the night sky through the spoken word.

“And thence we came forth, to see again the stars” – an introduction to paintings of cityscapes at night by Roberto Corradini.

Earth Day Feature – The Globe at Night – Be part of the International Citizen Science project featuring the constellation of “Leo”.

Dark Skies in Ireland – results from ongoing research on light pollution and the effect it has on rural Ireland with Prof Brian Espey.

Walking with the Stars – a virtual tour of the night sky and what to look out for in late April/May.

“Lady Moon and the Shadow” – magic and storytelling from Dan O’Donoghue.
